Growing up in a remote Himalayan kingdom in the 1980s, I did not have access to life’s many luxuries. The tiny school library was my favourite place to be, because amidst the dusty old books, I found wings to travel… to worlds unknown and creatures unseen. Crouching in between the shelves, I scribbled little sketches of my imaginations from the stories I read and often wondered if they really existed.. somewhere in the wide universe.
At the age of 40, I decided it was finally time to sail away from safe harbours and travel to these places I so cherished.
Studying at TAFE has enabled me to bring these characters and places to life, and as late as it may seem, I feel like I have finally found my true self.
Hello. My name is Ugyen and I am a multidisciplinary artist with an academic background in Communications & Graphic Design, and a professional background in Community Development. I truly enjoy 3D modeling and my work is heavily influenced by the books that I read as a young girl in a dusty old library somewhere in the Himalayas.
I am drawn to ordinary subjects that tell a hundred stories and some of the common themes prevalent in my work on are Wonder, Hope, Curiosity, Magic, Fantasy, Family, Home, Love, Kindness, etc. Through my art, I would like to capture the little things/moments we take for granted in life, and hopefully change one emotion..one moment..one life.. at a time
